Idols/Ídolos

Talking with a friend the other day, I tried to find this poem, but I couldn’t find it online, only the Spanish version, and I thought it was bizarre because I wrote it in English when I was studying in London around 10 years ago. I remember at that time my teacher took the poem and told me it was brilliant. And I respected him a lot.Every time I shared this poem, there was such a fuss in the audience or online that it was almost funny to experience. And then the long , tedious discussions about our idols. Then, once, I went to read it at a festival and they told me I couldn’t read it because it was “vulgar/too much”, so I had to read other poems. And when people start getting uncomfortable with a poem, you know the poem has accomplished something.

Life is too short to be oppressing poems and poets and people. I don’t regret a single verse I’ve ever written. And here it is again, photo taken from the poetry book, so you can hate it again ❣️💋
